Engagement Sessions at home can offer a little something different...

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph Nikki and Tyler in their home for their engagement session. The at-home engagement session is an awesome new trend that is quickly growing in popularity, and I can definitely understand why. First, you're literally in your own "natural habitat" - and that comfort can translate to some very fun, laid back photographs. Also, it allows the opportunity to capture the little moments of your lives together that help to define your relationship, whether it's sharing a cup of coffee, or snuggling on the couch beside the fireplace.

Interested in having your own at-home photo session? Here are a few tips to maximize comfort and grab some amazing images:

1) Consider your Home Decor

Your personal space is just that - personal. So ensure your space is full of pieces that tell a little bit about you. A favorite trinket from an amazing trip, a beautifully textured, luxurious throw blanket, or some fun and funky statement pillows can dress up your home to provide a beautiful backdrop.

2) Dress for Comfort

For an at home session, comfort is a must. Opt for your favorite casual outfit, or even your favorite pajamas! Bonus: Changing outfits for multiple looks is a snap, because you're home and have access to a private space and unlimited outfit resources.

3) Use All of the Space

Inside, outside, and everything in between - everything is fair game when you're at home. Use your living room, bedroom, kitchen, yard, and beyond to provide a fun variety to your session.

4) Be Yourself!

Home is the perfect place to relax and be yourself. Feel free to laugh, dance, and play your way through your session! It's much easier to relax in front of the camera when you don't have the public eye also focused on you.
