About the Venue

A Century of Southern Grandeur, in the Heart of the Triad

In the middle of historic downtown Thomasville, set back from Main Street behind 1.5 acres of manicured grounds, stands one of the most architecturally remarkable wedding venues in the Triad. The T. Austin Finch House was built in 1921 for Thomas Austin Finch — an industrialist who built his fortune in furniture manufacturing, served as president of the National Bank of Thomasville, and was later consulted by FDR during the Depression. The mansion that bears his name is a Renaissance Revival masterwork of 7,000 square feet, filled with hand-carved rosewood walls, original art, antiques, and period architectural detailing that simply cannot be recreated.

Today The Finch House operates as one of the Triad's most accessible and beloved wedding venues — combining genuine historic grandeur with a warmth and personal attention that reviewers consistently describe as extraordinary. Owner Andrew and the Finch House team have earned a 5.0-star rating across multiple platforms, with couples praising not just the beauty of the space but the way the team makes every wedding feel genuinely personal and stress-free.

With indoor spaces for intimate celebrations of up to 100 guests, a tented cobblestone terrace for outdoor receptions of up to 200, overnight accommodations for up to 25 guests, and elopement packages starting at $1,500, The Finch House is one of the most complete and accessible historic mansion venues in North Carolina.

The Spaces

Historic Rooms, Timeless Grounds

The Finch House's multiple event spaces each carry their own distinct character — from the intimate, wood-paneled warmth of the Library to the open-air grandeur of the cobblestone terrace. A wedding here can move naturally from the quiet luxury of the getting-ready suites to an intimate indoor ceremony to a grand tented outdoor reception, all within a single historic property.

  • The Library

One of the most singular ceremony environments at any Triad wedding venue. The Library features hand-carved rosewood walls and trim — a level of craftsmanship that belongs in a museum — anchored by an ornately carved rosewood fireplace that serves as a natural altar backdrop. The room is filled with exquisite original art, antiques, and period architectural detailing that create a warm, deeply layered photographic backdrop without requiring a single piece of additional décor. Intimate ceremonies of up to 70 guests fill the Library perfectly. For microweddings and elopements, this is the most distinctive indoor ceremony space in the Triad.

    Up to 70 guests
  • The Gold Room

The mansion's most light-filled interior room — featuring floor-to-ceiling arched windows that overlook the manicured grounds and flood the space with natural light throughout the day. The Gold Room is ideal for intimate receptions, bridal showers, and smaller celebrations that want the warmth and elegance of the mansion's interior paired with genuine natural light. The arched window architecture produces a distinctly regal photographic backdrop — clean, bright, and classically beautiful.

  • The Cobblestone Terrace

The venue's primary outdoor event space — a large cobblestone terrace covered by a permanent tent, accommodating up to 200 guests for al fresco receptions and outdoor ceremonies. The cobblestone underfoot, the surrounding garden plantings, and the mansion's facade rising behind the terrace create a genuinely picturesque outdoor event environment. The tent provides weather flexibility without sacrificing the outdoor ambiance — and as the evening progresses and ambient lighting activates, the terrace transforms into one of the warmest, most atmospheric reception settings in the Triad.

    Up to 200 guests
  • The Carriage House

A separate structure on the property featuring a full-service bar and lounge area and an indoor dance floor — the perfect complement to the outdoor terrace for receptions that want a defined dance and bar environment separate from the main dining space. The Carriage House's architectural character echoes the mansion's historic aesthetic while providing a more casual, energetic atmosphere that creates a natural destination for guests looking to dance, drink, and celebrate into the evening. For photographers, the Carriage House's warm ambient lighting and lively energy produce a completely different gallery mood from the mansion's formal grandeur.

  • The Bridal Suite & Groom's Suite

Two upstairs suites give both parties their own private preparation environments on opposite ends of the mansion. The bridal suite features a mirrored walk-in closet and generous natural light — ideal for getting-ready photography that captures the warmth and intimacy of the morning before the ceremony. The groom's suite is a club-style lounge complete with a pool table, dart board, and TV — the kind of practical, relaxed space that produces genuinely candid and natural coverage of the morning's quieter moments. The contrast between the two suites gives the gallery two distinct emotional environments before the ceremony even begins.

Why Photographers Love This Venue

The Finch House is exceptional for wedding photography because it is a venue where every room has been accumulating beauty for over a century. The hand-carved rosewood walls of the Library were not installed as a backdrop — they were crafted by artisans for an industrialist who wanted only the finest materials in his home. The ornate fireplace, the original art, the antique furnishings — all of it has a depth and authenticity that photographs with a warmth and richness that modern venues simply cannot replicate.

The Library fireplace ceremony is one of the most visually distinctive settings we photograph anywhere in the Triad. The hand-carved rosewood walls create a warm, deeply textured backdrop that wraps the couple in a quality of light and material that belongs in another era entirely. For intimate ceremonies and microweddings, there is genuinely nowhere else in the Triad that produces images quite like this room.

Outside, the cobblestone terrace's garden surroundings and mansion backdrop create portrait and reception environments that transition beautifully across the day — open and bright in the afternoon, warm and intimate as the tent lighting activates in the evening. The mansion's exterior facade, with its Renaissance Revival architectural details, also provides a dramatic portrait backdrop that communicates the full character of the venue in a single frame.

The Gold Room's arched windows deserve special mention for their quality of light — broad, soft, and directional, wrapping subjects with the kind of natural illumination that makes people look and feel their absolute best. For small indoor receptions and cocktail hours, it is consistently one of the most beautiful naturally lit rooms we work in across the entire Triad.

Photographer's Guide

Best Photo Spots by Time of Day

The Finch House's multiple distinct environments — mansion interiors, terrace, Carriage House, and grounds — give us a wide range of portrait and documentary settings to work with across a full wedding day. Here's how we structure coverage:

Morning · Getting Ready

  • Bridal suite mirrored closet portraits
  • Groom's suite pool table candids
  • Mansion staircase & foyer details
  • Gold Room morning window light

Midday · Ceremony & Cocktail Hour

  • Library rosewood fireplace ceremony
  • Garden pergola outdoor ceremony
  • Mansion exterior couple portraits
  • Cobblestone terrace cocktail hour

Evening · Golden Hour & Reception

  • Grounds golden hour portraits
  • Terrace tent evening reception
  • Carriage House dance floor coverage
  • Mansion facade illuminated dusk shots

The Library fireplace ceremony is the moment we plan everything else around at every Finch House wedding. Whatever other spaces are being used — whether the terrace reception is small or large, whether the Carriage House is activated for the evening — the Library ceremony is always the visual centerpiece of the gallery. Nothing else in the Triad produces ceremony images quite like that room.

Intimate Celebrations

Elopements & Microweddings at The Finch House

The Finch House's elopement package — starting at $1,500 for up to 10 guests plus the couple, available Sunday through Thursday — is one of the most compelling intimate wedding offerings in the Triad. The combination of the mansion's scale and grandeur with the intimacy of a 10-person guest list creates a genuinely special experience that feels nothing like a courthouse or generic venue elopement.

For couples choosing the Finch House elopement experience, Brian Anthony Photography offers intimate event coverage starting at $3,595 — including both photography and videography, so you have both a gallery and a film from your day in the mansion. The Library ceremony with the rosewood fireplace as a backdrop, followed by portraits on the mansion grounds, consistently produces gallery work that feels as grand and considered as a full-scale wedding.

If you're considering an elopement or microwedding in the Triad, The Finch House's combination of historic beauty, intimate scale, and accessible pricing makes it one of the strongest options available in the region.

Our Experience Here

Brian Anthony Photography at The Finch House

Historic mansions with genuine architectural character reward photographers who understand how to let the environment lead. The Finch House is a venue where the rooms themselves set the tone — the Library asks for reverence, the Gold Room asks for lightness, the Carriage House asks for energy — and the photographer's job is to read each space and respond to what it offers rather than imposing a single aesthetic across the whole day.

With over 1,000 weddings photographed and filmed, our approach is rooted in documentary storytelling — capturing authentic moments as they naturally unfold while building the intentional portrait work that takes full advantage of what the venue offers. At The Finch House, that means using the Library fireplace for ceremony coverage, protecting golden hour time on the mansion grounds for portraits, and letting the Carriage House's energy drive candid reception coverage as the evening progresses.

For couples getting married at The Finch House, we build a custom wedding day timeline around your specific spaces, the mansion's light patterns, and your guest count — so you experience every remarkable room and corner of the property without feeling rushed through any of it.
