If you're planning a wedding in Greensboro and The Colonnade at Revolution Mill isn't yet on your shortlist, it should be. Nestled within the historic Revolution Mill campus — a former textile mill that dates to the late 1800s — this full-service venue offers something rare in the Triad: genuine architectural character that cannot be manufactured or replicated in a modern event space.
Original maple hardwood floors. Exposed brick walls. Soaring ceilings. Enormous windows that pour soft, diffused natural light across every surface. Custom iron work and Edison string lights. A private outdoor courtyard with a fire pit and lounge seating. At 8,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, The Colonnade delivers an atmosphere that simply looks extraordinary in photographs — without requiring a single additional decoration.
As photographers who have worked extensively across Greensboro's wedding venues, we know that The Colonnade occupies a unique space in the market: it has the urban energy and industrial texture of a city venue, paired with the warmth and intimacy of a venue that genuinely feels like somewhere special. That combination produces galleries with a visual character you won't find anywhere else in the Triad.

Indoor Character, Outdoor Atmosphere
One of The Colonnade's greatest strengths for wedding photography is how naturally the indoor and outdoor environments complement each other. The industrial warmth of the main hall flows seamlessly into the private courtyard's garden-like intimacy — giving your gallery two completely distinct visual environments within a single venue.

The Main Hall
The heart of the venue — and one of the most photogenic interior spaces in Greensboro. Original maple hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings, custom iron railings, and enormous windows that flood the space with soft, diffused natural light. Edison string lights overhead create a warm, ambient glow that transforms beautifully for evening reception coverage. The open floor plan accommodates a wide range of ceremony and reception layouts, each producing a distinctly different gallery feel.

Outdoor ceremony & cocktail hour
The Private Courtyard
A hidden gem at the heart of the venue — a private outdoor courtyard that feels more like a secret garden than an event space. The courtyard features a fire pit with lounge seating, carefully maintained plantings, and architectural views of the historic mill buildings surrounding it. For outdoor ceremonies and cocktail hours, this space creates a completely different visual mood from the interior: open sky, natural greenery, and the warm glow of the fire pit at dusk. It is one of our favorite portrait environments in the Triad.

Two private suites
The Dressing Suites
Two dedicated dressing suites allow the bridal party and wedding party to prepare simultaneously — giving photographers two separate, well-lit environments for getting-ready coverage before the ceremony begins. Natural light in the suites creates clean, warm images that set the tone for the entire gallery and capture the emotional texture of the morning before the day begins in earnest.

The Revolution Mill Campus
Venue clients at The Colonnade have access to the broader Revolution Mill campus for photography — and that access is significant. The campus features historic mill architecture, brick corridors, iron staircases, arched doorways, and beautifully weathered industrial textures that provide portrait backdrops unlike anything available at a standard Greensboro venue. We regularly use the campus grounds during portrait sessions and golden hour coverage to produce images that feel editorial and timeless.
Why Photographers Love This Venue
The Colonnade at Revolution Mill is exceptional for wedding photography because the building was not designed to be a wedding venue — it was designed to be a functional industrial space, and over more than a century of use it has accumulated the kind of authentic texture and character that no amount of decoration can replicate. That authenticity is what makes photographs taken here feel genuinely different.
The enormous windows are what define this venue from a photography standpoint. The light they produce is soft, broad, and directional — exactly the kind of natural light that makes every subject look their best without any artificial supplementation. Combined with the brick and maple backdrop, you get images that feel warm, editorial, and timeless rather than event-venue generic.
— Brian Anthony Photography on shooting at The ColonnadeDuring ceremony coverage, the main hall's windows backlight the space beautifully — creating a soft, luminous glow behind the couple at the altar that is difficult to achieve in venues without this quality of natural light. During receptions, the Edison string lights overhead shift the mood from bright and open to warm and intimate as the evening progresses, giving the gallery a natural visual arc across the day.
Outside, the private courtyard's combination of open sky, fire pit light, and the surrounding mill architecture creates portrait and documentary opportunities that feel completely removed from the indoor world — even though the two spaces are steps apart. At golden hour, the warm brick tones of the surrounding mill buildings catch the light in a way that produces genuinely cinematic landscape portraits within an urban setting.
Best Photo Spots by Time of Day
Having photographed weddings across Greensboro's industrial venues, we know exactly how to build timelines that protect the moments that matter at The Colonnade. Here's how we structure coverage across a Revolution Mill wedding day:
Morning · Getting Ready
- Dressing suite natural window light
- Bridal detail shots on maple floors
- Mill campus exterior portraits
- Iron staircase & brick corridor details
Midday · Ceremony & First Look
- Main hall window-lit ceremony
- Courtyard outdoor ceremony
- First look on mill campus grounds
- Brick corridor couple portraits
Evening · Reception & Golden Hour
- Courtyard fire pit portraits
- Edison string light reception coverage
- Mill campus golden hour landscapes
- Iron railing mezzanine overview shots
One of the advantages of the Revolution Mill campus access is that we can step outside the venue during cocktail hour and use the surrounding historic buildings as portrait backdrops — without leaving the property or taking couples away from their guests for more than 15–20 minutes. The campus architecture is varied enough that we can produce genuinely different images within a short walking distance of the main event space.

Venues with strong architectural character reward photographers who understand how to use existing light and texture rather than working against it. The Colonnade at Revolution Mill is one of those venues where the building itself is the best tool we have — the brick, the maple, the iron, the windows all contribute to images that feel rooted in a specific place and a specific moment rather than floating in a generic event-venue aesthetic.
With over 1,000 weddings photographed and filmed, our approach is rooted in documentary storytelling — capturing authentic moments as they naturally unfold, while also building the intentional portrait work that takes full advantage of what the venue offers. At Revolution Mill, that means protecting time on the campus grounds for portraits, building the ceremony timeline around the window light in the main hall, and letting the courtyard fire pit create the mood for evening coverage rather than fighting it.
For couples getting married at The Colonnade, we build a custom wedding day timeline around the venue's specific light patterns, space flow, and your guest count — including dedicated time on the broader mill campus for portraits that go beyond the event space.
