In Winston-Salem's revitalized Industry Hill neighborhood — surrounded by breweries, performance venues, restaurants, galleries, museums, and maker spaces that collectively define the most creatively energized block in the city — Robert Hall occupies an early 1900s building that has served as a doctor's office, a cafe, a sign shop, and a metal workshop across its history. The current owners, Christy and Will Spencer, saw in that layered history something worth celebrating rather than erasing, and created an event and hospitality destination that uses the building's accumulated character as its defining aesthetic.
Three distinct event spaces — Capone's Bar, The Vault, and The Garden — can be reserved individually or combined. Five boutique Airbnb rooms in The Huntley House, adjacent to the venue, allow the wedding party to stay on-site in spaces meticulously curated with family heirlooms and vintage pieces that feel like staying with "your most sophisticated and eclectic relatives." The flow between the three spaces creates a natural wedding day arc: vows in The Garden or The Vault, cocktail hour ascending to Capone's Bar, reception back in The Vault before the evening becomes a party. The venue's sense of flow — highlighted by Event Manager Kristopher Walter as his favorite thing about Robert Hall — is what makes it feel like a cohesive experience rather than three disconnected rooms.

Robert Hall includes tables, chairs, and dinnerware in wedding packages — removing the external rental coordination that most venues leave to the couple. Bar service is available through venue-recommended providers. The catering kitchen in The Vault allows caterers to work efficiently on-site. The five Huntley House rooms are ideal for getting-ready sessions, overnight stays after the wedding, and on-site accommodations for out-of-town guests. Capone's Bar, The Vault, The Garden & The Huntley House
- Cocktail hour & reception
Capone's Bar
The second-floor heart of Robert Hall and its most immediately distinctive space — built around an authentic 1920s mahogany bar rumored to have originated at one of Al Capone's Michigan haunts. The bar's scale, patina, and historical rumor make it the most talked-about feature at any Robert Hall wedding — and the most consistently photographed. The combination of the 1920s bar aesthetic, the warm mahogany tones, and the second-floor elevation creates an interior portrait and candid documentation environment that is completely unlike anything available at any other Winston-Salem venue. Approximately 2,100–2,500 square feet.
- Up to 120 seated
The Vault
A 2,500-square-foot modern industrial event space with a professional catering kitchen — the venue's primary ceremony and seated reception space for up to 120 guests. The Vault's aesthetic balances the raw industrial character of the building's history with a cleaner, more contemporary design language than Capone's Bar, making it a versatile environment that supports a wide range of décor directions. The catering kitchen allows on-site food preparation without the logistical compromises of off-site catering.
- Up to 120 seated outdoors
The Garden
A 2,100–2,400-square-foot outdoor patio space surrounded by mature trees, featuring two fireplaces, open sky above, and a historic wishing well discovered on the property during renovation. The wishing well is Robert Hall's most photographically whimsical element — unexpected, charming, and completely specific to this place. The two fireplaces create warm ambient light for evening garden coverage. The Garden provides both ceremony and cocktail hour environments with the natural, outdoor character that complements the venue's industrial interior spaces perfectly.
- Five boutique rooms
The Huntley House
Five boutique Airbnb rooms adjacent to the venue, each meticulously curated with family heirlooms and vintage "new old" treasures that create an aesthetic unlike any standard hotel accommodation. The rooms serve as getting-ready suites during the wedding day and overnight accommodations for the wedding party and out-of-town guests. Their curated, residential character creates getting-ready photography with the kind of authentic, personal backdrop that generic hotel rooms cannot provide.
Why Photographers Love This Venue
Robert Hall is exceptional for wedding photography because it offers something that cannot be manufactured: genuine historical character accumulated across multiple eras of the building's life. The 1920s mahogany bar at Capone's has a patina and scale that new bars cannot replicate. The historic wishing well in The Garden was discovered during renovation — it was there before the venue and will be there after it. The Huntley House rooms' heirloom-curated aesthetic creates getting-ready environments with personal, residential warmth that no hotel suite achieves. All of it photographs with the authenticity that only genuinely old things possess.
The three-space layout also creates a natural photographic arc across the wedding day — different visual registers in each environment, with the flow between them producing organic guest energy and candid coverage opportunities that single-room venues cannot replicate.

The historic wishing well in The Garden is a portrait priority at every Robert Hall wedding we photograph — it is one of those completely unexpected venue elements that produces genuinely distinctive images. We protect time at the well during cocktail hour for couple portraits, and the resulting images consistently surprise couples who see them for the first time: charming, romantic, and utterly specific to this place.

Independently owned venues run by owners who are personally passionate about local history and genuine celebration create a completely different working environment from managed event halls. Christy and Will Spencer's investment in the building's story — and Kristopher Walter's event management expertise — produce a venue experience that is attentive, flexible, and genuinely invested in each couple's vision. Reviewers consistently describe going above and beyond as a given at Robert Hall rather than an exception.
With over 1,000 weddings photographed and filmed, our approach is rooted in documentary storytelling paired with intentional portrait work using Capone's Bar, the Garden wishing well, and the Huntley House's curated rooms as the primary visual anchors of the day.
