Check Your DateWhere Rustic Heritage Meets Modern Elegance
If you're planning a wedding in Winston-Salem and Legacy Stables & Events is on your radar, you already know this venue is something special. Founded in 2012 on a property with deep equestrian roots, the estate was formerly one of the largest horseback riding lesson facilities in the Southeast — home to championship American Saddlebred show horses. Today those same horses still graze the surrounding pastures, giving the venue a living, breathing connection to its heritage that no amount of rustic décor can replicate.
What sets Legacy Stables apart from other Winston-Salem wedding venues is the sheer scale of possibility. Three distinct barn spaces, manicured gardens, open pastures, an outdoor fire pit, and over 34,000 square feet of climate-controlled event space means that no two weddings here look exactly alike — and for photographers, that variety translates into galleries with genuine depth and character.
As experienced Legacy Stables wedding photographers, we've learned exactly how light moves across this property from morning to golden hour, which spaces work best for portraits at each time of day, and how to build timelines that take full advantage of everything the venue has to offer.

Three Barn Venues, Endless Possibilities
One of the defining strengths of Legacy Stables & Events for wedding photography is the variety of spaces available — each with its own character, its own light, and its own photographic personality. A wedding here can flow effortlessly from getting-ready suites to garden ceremonies to dramatic barn receptions, giving your gallery a natural range of environments without ever leaving the property.

The Grace Barn
Once a training facility for award-winning American Saddlebred show horses, The Grace Barn is now 12,000 sq ft of elegant, climate-controlled event space known for its whimsical romantic décor. The Salem Stallway features tall barn doors that open to a serene evergreen view framed by permanent drapery and eucalyptus — one of the most beautiful ceremony backdrops in the Triad. Can be combined with the Legacy House patio for an indoor-outdoor flow.

Up to 1,000 guests
The Forsyth Barn
The largest space on the property at 22,000 sq ft, The Forsyth Barn features the Grand Ballroom and the Carolina Room, a large open foyer, stallway, and outdoor terrace. Soaring ceilings, climate control, and advanced technical infrastructure make it the go-to space for large-scale weddings and receptions. The elevated mezzanine and multiple room configurations provide exceptional variety for reception photography.

Intimate gatherings
The Legacy House
Overlooking acres of green pasture, The Legacy House is the venue's most intimate space — ideal for rehearsal dinners, small ceremonies, and cocktail receptions. Features two full outdoor kitchens, a fire pit, a stone fireplace, and a garden path lined with climbing vines, azaleas, lavender, and hydrangeas. For portrait photography, this is our favorite location on the entire property.
-
Unlimited outdoor space
The Pastures & Grounds
The open pastures surrounding the property — with American Saddlebred horses grazing in the background — create a portrait backdrop that is utterly unique to this venue. Whether you incorporate the horses or simply use the rolling green landscape as your setting, these outdoor spaces give Legacy Stables a pastoral, editorial quality that no indoor-only venue can match.

Private suites on-site
Getting Ready Suites
Dedicated getting-ready suites for both the bridal party and the wedding party allow the morning of your wedding to unfold at a relaxed pace — and give us two simultaneous environments to photograph before the ceremony begins. Natural light in the bridal suite creates clean, editorial getting-ready images that set the tone for the whole gallery.
Why Photographers Love This Venue
Legacy Stables & Events is exceptional for wedding photography for one fundamental reason: the variety of light environments available within a single property is extraordinary. From soft morning window light in the getting-ready suites, to the dramatic open-sky natural light of the pastures, to the warm ambient glow of the barn interiors at night — this venue gives photographers multiple complete shooting environments in one location.
The combination of rolling pasture, mature garden plantings, and soaring barn interiors means we can build a wedding gallery here that genuinely has editorial range — intimate portrait moments, dramatic wide-angle ceremony shots, and golden hour landscapes that feel completely different from anything you'd find at a traditional ballroom venue.

The Grace Barn's Salem Stallway, with its tall doors opening to that evergreen backdrop, is one of the most naturally photogenic ceremony spaces in the Triad — the light pours in from the exterior while the drapery and eucalyptus framing adds editorial texture to every wide-angle shot.
Outside, the Legacy House garden path — with its azaleas, lavender, hydrangeas, and climbing vines — provides lush, romantic portrait settings at almost any time of day. And at golden hour, the open pastures with grazing horses in the background create cinematic landscape portraits you simply cannot replicate anywhere else in Winston-Salem.

One of the unique planning advantages at Legacy Stables is that the property is large enough to allow for truly private portrait moments even during a large wedding. We regularly take couples out to the pastures or the far end of the garden path during cocktail hour — 15 minutes away from the crowd — and come back with golden hour images that look like they were shot on a private estate.

Venues with strong character and natural settings reward photographers who know when to let the environment do the work and when to shape it. Legacy Stables & Events is one of those venues where the location itself is a collaborator — the horses, the gardens, the pastures, and the barn architecture all contribute to images that feel genuinely different from standard wedding photography.
With over 1,000 weddings photographed and filmed, our approach is rooted in documentary storytelling — capturing authentic moments as they naturally unfold, without manufactured poses or interrupting the flow of your day. At Legacy Stables, that approach pairs beautifully with the venue's relaxed outdoor character. Couples here tend to feel at ease on the property, and that ease shows in every frame.
For couples getting married at Legacy Stables & Events, we build a custom wedding day timeline around the property's specific light patterns, space flow, and your guest count — so you get the most out of every location without feeling rushed between the barns and the gardens.
